Industrial Sickness – Reasons
Reasons:
The reasons of sickness of businesses and industries can not defined and attributed in single factor. It may be different for different industries. But there are some common factors in almost all sick industries.
The main reasons for the sickness can be categorized as:
1. External factors of sick business or Exogenous causes
2. Internal factors of sick business or Endogenous causes
1. Exogenous Causes:
There may be many exogenous factors causing a business or industry sick. They may vary from location/time to location/time for business/industry to business/industry. They may be different for same industry in different location or time or management team.
Some external reasons of business to be sick may be:
(i) Insufficient fund or shortage of financial strength
(ii) Inefficient labors or unavailability of skilled labors
(iii) Wrong selection of products or Lack of their demands
(iv) Implementation or change in business policy
(v) Insufficient maintenance staffs or poor inventory maintenance
(vi) Availability and quality raw materials
(vii) Natural conditions of climate/weather
(viii) Political restlessness .
2. Endogenous Reasons:
Majority of the industrial projects/business (54%) are found to be sick for internal reasons like inexperienced management, unskilled labors, unskilled operative manpower, poor implementation of business policies and /or lack of sufficient fund or insufficient working capital.
